How ActivArmor Facemasks Compare To N95 Masks

02 May, 2020

With the N95 mask shortage, ActivArmor has stepped to the plate with a lightweight, transparent, fitted facemask.   Here’s a direct comparison.

ActivArmor Facemasks are designed using facial scan to provide the best possible, most comfortable seal against the face, ensuring that airborne particulates are filtered instead of circumventing the mask.  They are transparent, allowing improved communication, and are lightweight and comfortable for long lasting wear.  They are washable and reusable, and the filters are replaceable and reusable.  They are being used by FEMA, healthcare workers and first responders across the country.

ActivArmor face masks are manufactured in compliance with the FDA’s Enforcement Policy for Face Masks and Respirators During the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency.  Covid-19 viral particles range in size from 0.06 – 0.14 microns.  N95 filter material has been tested to filter >95% of 0.3 micron particulates.  Our H600 filter material has a Bacterial Filtration Efficiency to filter >99.9% of 0.5 micron particulates.

While neither material has been proven to filter Covid 19 viral-sized particles, both filter the majority of airborn droplets (1-20 micron size) containing the Covid-19 virus particulates.

Standard N95 masks are not fit tested for seal to your face (like respirators* are), and since air will take the path of least resistance, airborne particulates can easily circumvent the mask filter fabric completely.  ActivArmor masks are designed to fit the unique contours of your face, to seal out particulates from bypassing the filters.

*ActivArmor face masks are not classified as respirators.  If you are required to wear an N95 respirator, ActivArmor face masks are not a validated substitute.
